Snooper's Rock

Prentice Cooper State Forest, Suck Creek Mountain

A free, no-admission overlook of the Tennessee River Gorge inside Prentice Cooper State Forest, with views toward Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain. Reach it via the well-marked Cumberland Trail (a moderate 5.9-mile out-and-back through forested paths and rocky terrain) or drive the gravel Fire Tower Road to a parking area a short walk from the rock. From Chattanooga, take Highway 27 west along the river and up Suck Creek Mountain. Prentice Cooper is an active Wildlife Management Area — the area closes to regular visitors during scheduled hunts, so check TWRA's current hunt calendar before you go rather than assuming it's open.
